Meet Our Staff
Dr. Bob Cohen
Dr. Bob Cohen joined the clinical staff at Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital in December 2008, bringing extensive experience in emergency and critical care medicine and surgery gained from 22 years as an Emergency Clinician in specialty and referral practices. His background also includes four years of teaching veterinary emergency medicine at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in North Grafton, MA.
Dr. Cohen received his education at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, completing his undergraduate degree in Zoology in 1977 and his DVM at UGA’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. Dr. Cohen has practiced in Georgia, Maine, Connecticut, and Massachusetts before moving to Pennsylvania in 1994. He lives outside of State College with his wife, Bonnie, and two cats, Ted and Isaac. When not practicing, he is a long-distance runner, avid motorcyclist, and holds a commercial pilots license.
Dr. Katie Kalp
Dr. Katie Kalp started her veterinary career at the Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital, working as a Veterinary Assistant during her undergraduate years at Penn State University. She graduated in December, 2002 with a double major in Biology and Animal Bioscience and then earned her DVM at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Following graduation, she completed a one-year Small Animal Rotating Internship at the Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Greensboro, NC, before coming back to State College in 2008 to join the team at Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Kalp has interests in Internal Medicine and Neurology. When she’s not practicing, she’s a huge sports fan and particularly enjoys following baseball, college football, and hockey. She is also an avid reader. Dr. Kalp enjoys living in State College with her two dogs and two cats.
Dr. Stacy Stancu
Dr. Stacy Stancu was born and raised in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. She graduated from Cornell University with a BA in Biology and a concentration in Genetics in 2008. She previously worked as a veterinary technician and a Keeper Supervisor in a zoo in upstate New York before earning her DVM from the University of Tennessee. After graduation, she headed north to join the team at the Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital in the summer of 2014.
Dr. Stancu’s interests include Surgery and Internal Medicine. She is recently married and when away from the practice loves reading, eating exciting food, and spending time with her golden retriever, Tuvok, and her guinea pig, Chyle.
Dr. Laura Pollock
Dr. Laura Pollock joined Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital in 2017. A Pennsylvania native, she completed her undergraduate studies at Clemson University in South Carolina before earning her DVM with Distinction from Cornell University in 2013. Dr. Pollock has a particular interest in cardiology, dentistry, geriatrics, and pain management. She further advanced her pain management skills by achieving certification in veterinary medical acupuncture from the CuraCore Integrative Medicine and Education Center in 2015. Most recently she is pursuing certification in veterinary spinal manipulative therapy from the Veterinary Chiropractic Learning Centre in Ontario, Canada, which she will complete in early 2017.
Dr. Pollock lives outside State College with her husband and a houseful of pets including 2 Italian greyhounds, a horse, a cat, a snake, a tarantula, and a betta fish. In her free time she enjoys horseback riding, gardening, and fitness.
Mandy earned her Associates in Specialized Veterinary Technology from the Vet Tech Institute in Pittsburgh in February of 2014, and then passed her State Boards to become a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) in July of 2014. Mandy joined the team at Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital in December of 2015. She lives in the Mill Hall area with her fiancé, Philip, and their 5 dogs, 2 birds, and dwarf rabbit. In her spare time, she shows and hunts with her beagles.
Nicole joined the team at Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital in March of 2015. She graduated in 2012 with an associate’s degree in Specialized Veterinary Technology from Sanford Brown Institute, also earning graduate of the year for her class. She became a Certified Veterinary Technician (C.V.T.) in December of 2012 after passing her State Boards and has a special interest in animal dentistry. She moved to the State College area in 2013 and enjoys spending time with her young son, family, and friends.
Susie joined the team at Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital in 2014 after earning a B.S. in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at Penn State University with a concentration in biology and equine science. Outside of work Susie enjoys cooking, reading, horseback riding and spending time with her cat, Roswell.
Nancy Hastings was first hired by Mt. Nittany as a receptionist. In 1993, after several years helping clients at the front desk, Nancy took the plunge into grooming. She’s happy to report that Mt. Nittany Grooming has continued to grow ever since. Nancy has lived in the State College area most of her life and now resides in Pleasant Gap with her son, Jason, who is her pride and joy! When she’s not in a room full of dog hair and running dryers, Nancy enjoys the peace and quiet of gardening and spending time with her family.
Pet Store Manager
Andrea joined Mt. Nittany Veterinary Hospital as a receptionist in December 2008. A native of Texas, she also lived in California and Rhode Island before settling in the State College area and has made this her home, along with her husband, their four children, cat and four dogs. Having spent many years in office management before joining the Mt. Nittany team, she fell in love with working with the animals and clients here at Mt. Nittany and realized that this is her calling. If you're looking for just the right type of food, treat, toy, or other item for your special pet, Andrea will be pleased to help you find it! In her spare time Andrea enjoys traveling and spending time with her family all across the U.S. Please stop in and say hi to Andrea the next time you're in the neighborhood.
